ORCA YOUTH SWIM TEAM (OYST)
The ORCA Youth Swim Team (OYST) offers competition through teamwork. We help swimmers accomplish the impossible, learn to believe in themselves, and discover they "can do" more than they ever imagined. The ORCA Youth Swim Team is a fun arena for intermediate to advanced swimmers to learn the value of competition through teamwork, sportsmanship, and doing one's best! The OYST is comprised of two sister teams that swim at either the Olympia Downtown Y or the Briggs Community Y.
Our trained coaches work to improve swimmers' skill level, endurance, and to promote a healthy lifestyle. We encourage kids to develop team spirit and take to heart the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, & responsibility!
All potential new team members are required to try out. Please contact your practice site for details regarding dates and times.
Swimmers should be at the Minnow swim level or higher; able to comfortably swim one length of the pool using both freestyle and backstroke, tread water for 30 seconds, dive in from the deep end of the pool, and respond to coach's instructions.
Parental involvement is essential to the success of the OYST and parent participation at swim meets and fundraisers is required. Your family can participate in a variety of roles, including leadership opportunities, fundraising, and timers/officials for swim meets. The ORCA Youth Swim Team (OYST) competes year round in PSSA swimming leagues. There are one to two meets a month, held on weekends.
