YMCAs across the country aim to Motivate a Million People to Take a Billion Steps! Making just two small daily changes - taking 2,000 more steps and eating 100 fewer calories - preventing the average annual weight gain of one to two pounds. The YMCA is reaching out to better support Americans of all ages who are trying to achieve and maintain well-being of spirit, mind, and body. Here are just a few of the many America on the Move week events:

Propagation of Rhododendrons
Learn how to propagate your own Rhododendrons! Class will be taught by the owner of Down’s Rhododendrons in Olympia. Tuesday, October 6, 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at the Briggs YMCA.

Family Fun Nights
Briggs Branch - September 11
Bring the family and join us for a fun-filled evening. This is a special time to bond with your children and make new friends from 6:30–8:00 p.m.
Olympia Downtown Branch - September 15
Fall Kick-Off! Free to YMCA members and $10 to the public for a family swim pass 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Apple Cup Auction - The Best Tailgate Party in Town!
An event not to be missed! Featuring good old-fashioned rivalry and loads of fun, while raising funds for YMCA youth sports and the kids in our community. Donations of cash and new items are needed. Everyone Plays + Everyone Wins = Fun!

Teen Leadership Group
Middle school students come and develop personal leadership skills in a safe environment. Leadership students will play an essential role in the direction the YMCA serves middle school students in our community. 1st & 3rd Saturdays of every month 7:30–8:30 p.m. For more information contact Shilpa Johnson at johnsons@ssymca.net or 918-0337.
The YMCA Youth and Government
Offers high school and eighth-grade students the opportunity to learn and practice how our state government operates. The program runs from September through May. For more information contact Shilpa Johnson at johnsons@ssymca.net or 918-0337.
Teen Tai Chi (11–14 years)
Have fun with your friends while learning the ancient martial art of Tai Chi Chuan. Become more centered and balanced. Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00–6:45 p.m.
Full Member: Free
Basic Member: $48 (4-week) / $60 (5-week)
Operation Fit Teens (11 - 14 years)
This six-week program will engage teens in daily, fitness-based activities, while learning about nutrition and physical exercise. Proper warm-up and cool-down techniques and exactly what it means to be fit are just some of the things your teen will learn. Pre-registration required by Friday, September 11.
September 15–October 21, Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30–5:30 p.m.

Minute Mania - New at the Briggs branch! New high-energy class: 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of stretching, and 20 minutes of weight lifting, using interval training as the format.
Ultimate Winner Challenge! - Do you need support and friendly encouragement to turn your fitness goals into reality? Become an “Ultimate Winner” and receive lots of support, weigh-ins and measurements of your progress, a weekly meeting with a certified nutritionist, and more! Zumba - More times beginning the week of September 20!
Dance your way to a fitter you! Exciting and unique Latin moves and rhythms create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness program! Zumba Gold is a less strenuous version of the latest dance craze!

Birthday Parties
Have the YMCA take care of your birthday party needs. We will provide a party room with decorations, cake, juice, and a staff host! Choose from several cake themes including Barbie, Scooby Doo, and more. You may choose the gymnasium, swimming, Adventure Zone, or the Climbing Wall. Reservations available for Saturday and Sunday only. Please call or visit our website for more birthday party options.

Effective September 1, 2009, full YMCA members are now able to bring an unlimited number of guests. Guests must remain with the member while in the facility and also present photo ID upon each visit. After the third visit, guests are required to purchase a day pass or membership. For additional information contact the Member Services desk.
