New School-Age Care Curriculum

The School-Age Care programs will be launching a new curriculum in January.  This enriching, theme-based curriculum will be used by all site locations.  It will continue to have the creative arts, active play, and homework time our kids need, and will add elements of science and cooking and healthy lifestyles.  Look for our first theme of Pirates at a Y-Care site near you.

Fun with Fruits and Vegetables

Can you think of a sweet tasting fruit that starts with the letter k? Winter is the season for this sweet and sour fruit. It is not a kiwi. Have you heard of a kumquat? The kumquat is a wonderful choice during the winter months and it packs a lot of vitamins A and C. Look for kumquats with golden-yellow to reddish-orange skin. They can be stored easily at room temperature and can be enjoyed as is. Eaten with the skin and served like grapes, they become a quick and tasty snack.  Or, turn them into a juice that can be added to a sauce for your poultry or pork dishes this season. Another option is to add them to your holiday breads, muffins, or pies.
