Senior Adult Fitness Classes

YMCA Older Adult Fitness ClassesYMCA older adult programs are designed specifically for adults according to their physical needs and may include adults of all ages.

Focus on Healing (Briggs Community Branch)
A therapeutic excercise program of gentle specific movement in an atmosphere suffused with music & laughter. Particularly beneficial for people with, or recovering from, chronic medical conditions, including those affecting the lymphatic system.
Fee schedule includes 8 classes to be completed within a 12 week period.

Senior Fitness in the Gym (Olympia Downtown Branch)
Floor aerobics class focusing on mobility, balance, strength, core muscle groups, and overall flexibility. You can enjoy exercising at your own pace.

Senior Swim (Olympia Downtown Branch
Includes arthritis exercise, deep water exercise, and water volleyball. Have fun exercising with friends!

Early Bird Walking (Briggs Community Branch)
A refreshing way to start the day. Class is self-paced and meets in the gym.

Silver Streak (Briggs Community Branch)
A minimum impact, moderate intensity floor class dedicated to at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity. Meets in the multipurpose room.

Keeping the Beat in your Seat (Briggs Community Branch)
Toe tapping, finger twirling chair exercises. Meets in the multipurpose room.

Functional Fitness (Briggs Community Branch)
Learn practical exercises designed to improve and enhance everyday living. This energizing workout utilizes weight equipment and resistance tubes to help participants increase their resting metabolism and redefine their body composition. It also helps prevent bone loss.

EZ Xercise (Briggs Community Branch)
Improve posture, balance, and flexibility through a series of basic ballet exercises, jazz steps, and expressive movement. A low impact class for those who want a good workout without the impact of high intensity aerobics.

Yoga (Briggs Community Branch and Olympia Downtown Branch)
Whether a beginner or veteran, we have the yoga class for you! Blending mind and body fitness participants develop strength and flexibility. Easy-moving attire encouraged.

Pool Pals (Briggs Community Branch)
A comprehensive work-out which includes stretching and floating on noodles, as well as low intensity aerobic exercises.

Pool Buddies (Briggs Community Branch)
A low impact class with two 15-minute segments dedicated to moderate aerobic activity. After a gradual warm-up, class focuses on flexibility and strengthening activities.

Flamingos (Briggs Community Branch)
A great combination of water exercises in deep and shallow water. This class will give you a 30-minute work-out and then flex and stretch every muscle in your body. Meets in the main pool.

M & M's (Briggs Community Branch)
A self-paced, low impact water exercise class with an emphasis on exercises to increase your flexibility and balance.

Ai Chi (Briggs Community Branch)
Experience the tranquil, soothing balance of Tai Chi in the water. Especially helpful for people with Arthritis and other muscle/joint medical conditions.

Funquatics (Briggs Community Branch)
A vigorous deep-water workout, designed to increase your stamina by combining various water exercises and swimming. Meets in the main pool.

Polar Bears (Briggs Community Branch)
A minimum impact, water exercise class dedicated to 30-minutes of moderate intensity level activity. Class includes exercises in muscle strengthening, flexibility, and balance. Meets in the main pool.

Stroop's Troops (Briggs Community Branch)
This gentle muscle strengthening class includes brief periods of exertion and no repetitive pounding of extremities. Meets in the activity pool.

Senior Water Volleyball (Briggs Community Branch and Olympia Downtown Branch)
Come early or stay late, and enjoy our beach ball water volleyball. Get a fun workout with social interaction.

Arthritis Aquatic Exercise (Briggs Community Branch)
A self-paced class with no repetitive or pounding exercises to the feet, legs, arms, or hands. Emphasis given to bending, reaching, and extending. All classes are held in the activity pool.

Let's Dance (Briggs Community Branch)
Learn various dance techniques from the Waltz to the Two-Step.

Swing Dance Class (Olympia Downtown Branch)
Come join a smooth afternoon dance party. Waltz, Foxtrot, Two Step, American Tango, Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha, and Rock & Roll are easy to learn with low impact, and great for your heart.

Music Matters (Briggs Community Branch)
Calling all music lovers! Bring your singing voice, musical instrument, conducting, or writing skills and let's make music! Along with fun practice time, Music Matters Band performs throughout the community. Meets in the multipurpose room.

Pathways to Wellness
Find your own personal path to wellness through group discussions, quarterly guest speakers and field trips. Class meets every Wednesday from 6:00-7:00pm, offering education and support in the development and maintenance of a healthy spirt, mind and body. Meetings are free to the public and are located in the Director's Office Meeting Area.

Senior Games Practice
Get ready for the Senior Games! The Briggs YMCA is hosting practice for Dancing on Mondays from 2:15-3:15pm, Swimming on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm and Basketball on Friday from 6:30-8:00pm. Event is open to the public but please check in with the Front Desk before participating. Must be 50 or older as of December 31, 2007 to qualify. Practice runs through July.
