Preschool Swimming Lessons The YMCA’s Preschool Aquatics Program is for children 3 to 5 years of age. Children are taught basic swimming skills, pool safety, boating safety, and the use of personal flotation devices (PFD). These skills start to build the foundation to a sport/activity that can be enjoyed throughout their lives promoting overall health and wellbeing. Classes are divided by ability level and maintain a ratio of six students to one instructor.
Pike No prior experience necessary. For new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking, pool safety, and becoming comfortable with their faces in the water. Super Pike Child must be able to put face in water, feel comfortable in the water, and listen to instructor. Eel This class will continue to work on the basics for children who are comfortable in the water. Working on bobs, back and front floats, arm strokes, and kicking. Prerequisite: Completed Super Pike Skills Ray For children who are comfortable in the water floating both on their front and back and are also able to go under the water. Swimmers will work on breathing, front crawl stroke, and treading water. Prerequisite: Completed Eel Skills Starfish Children will continue to work on side breathing and front crawl stroke. Introduction to backstroke and underwater swimming. Comfortable in deep water. Prerequisite: Completed Ray Skills |
