Earth Service Corps
Calling All Youth! Ages 13 – 20! Do you want to take action and become an environmental leader in our community? Are you interested in saving the world? Join the YMCA Earth Service Corps (YESC), a national YMCA program that teaches young people caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through community action. You can get involved in YESC through your High School or by joining Eco-Leaders or the WAKOTE Club. WAKOTE (We are Keepers Of The Earth) focuses on creating change in our community through the arts. Last year we painted a mural over the storm hatch at the corner of Chestnut and State. Check it out! The mural is currently raising awareness of Moxlie Creek, which is piped underneath downtown Olympia. We already have many ideas in the works for this year including: painting another educational mural, performing a play on climate change, and making zines, hand-made paper, and journals.
The Eco-Leaders are a dynamic group of teens that get together to learn about the environment, have fun, take part in action projects, and organize community events. Last year we dug potatoes at Left Foot Organics, pulled invasive species, planted trees, organized events like the Winter Feast and the June Eco-Jam, and had a blast!
