Volunteer Coaches Needed!

We offer 8 seasons a year and are always looking for volunteer coaches. If you are interested in coaching a sport, please contact Beth Daniel at 918-0254 or danielb@ssymca.net. You could make the difference in the life of a child. Contact us today!

Coaching OpportunitiesVolunteer Youth Sports Coaches are needed

FALL COACHES should be calling in NOW!!! In the fall, we offer Itty-Bitty Soccer, Itty-bitty T-Ball, Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Golf, NFL Flag Football (though you should have started calling in back on the 20th of May), Outdoor Soccer, Roller Hockey and Volleyball.

So you can start planning, Late Fall coaches (Itty-Bitty Indoor Soccer, Indoor Soccer, and Volleyball), should plan to start calling in on Sept 30th.

For those like to plan even further, Winter Coaches (Basketball and Cheerleading) should make sure to set a reminder to call in on October 13th!

And for you real over-achiever that wants to coach one of our Late Winter Sports (Itty-Bitty Basketball, Itty-Bitty Cheerleading, Itty-Bitty Indoor Soccer, Chess, Indoor Soccer, Roller Hockey and Volleyball), highlight December 2nd on your planner to sign up then!

Coach Meetings and Clinics

The Coaches Meeting is required for all first time coaches. All coaches must attend one of these meetings to get their equipment. The Coaches’ Meeting includes YMCA Philosophy, Goals, Objectives, Safety, Season Dates, Expectations of Coaches, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Volunteer Handbook, Packet, Rules, and Equipment Distribution.

The Coaches meetings are all held at the Olympia Downtown YMCA (510 Franklin Street SE, Olympia, 98501)

Late Summer (NFL Flag Football) Coaches' Meeting:
(NOTE: This meeting has been MOVED to the Knox Administration Building - 1113 Legion Way SE, Olympia, 98501. Room #303.

New Coaches: 6-8pm
Returning Coaches: 7:15-8pm

Fall Coaches’ Meetings:

Coaches’ Clinics:
Coaches’ Clinics are recommended but optional for all coaches and include coaching tips, practice organization and drills. We encourage coaches to attend if possible.

Coaching Materials

Coach Application
If you are interested in possibly coaching or becoming an assistant coach, please fill out this packet and turn it into the Olympia Downtown YMCA. Make sure you have completely filled out and signed all pages in the packet.

Volunteer Waiver of Liability
This is the South Sound YMCA Volunteer Waiver of Liability. All volunteers need to turn this in with their application as well.

Youth Sports Volunteer Coach Handbook (updated May 2010)
The South Sound YMCA Volunteer Coaches’ Handbook. This new book contains a lot of updated information. It has a lot of very valuable information such as emergency management, the RICE Method, characteristics of children, child abuse prevention and much more. You will be asked to re-sign a new Volunteer Statement of Understanding stating you received this new book.

Volunteer Statement of Understanding
This form must be turned into the YMCA stating you have read and understand the Youth Sports Volunteer Coaches’ Handbook. Please note that all coaches are being given a new Handbook as of September 2008 and will be asked to re-sign this document after receiving the new version.

If there is an incident that you wish us to know about, please fill out this form and return it to us within 24 hours of the incident.

Child Abuse Documentation Form 
To document suspected child abuse.

Season Certificate (Spring 2010)
The end of season certificate. The child’s name can be typed into the form before printing.

Heads Up – Concussion in Youth Sports – for Coaches
The Heads Up – Concussion in Youth Sports training for coaches” document that all Youth Sports Coaches must be trained on. This is passed out at the Coach Meetings but in case you need a new copy, here you go!

Code of Conduct
This form must be turned into the YMCA stating you agree to follow our Code of Conduct. 

Coach Job Description
Even though you are a volunteer, you are still doing a job (sure a fun job, but a job none the less). This is your job description.

Basic Membership Application
Just in case you are helping one of your players sign up, they may need the basic membership form. This is our Basic Membership Application that will need to be filled out annually if you participate in programs as a Basic Members.

Program Registration Form
In case you need the form that you fill out at the YMCA for program registration or if you are helping one of your players get signed up, this is our program registration form that is used for most programs.
