Martial Arts The martial arts Karate and Tae Kwon Do are physical disciplines shaped by East Asian philosophical concepts. These lessons focus on increasing physical fitness, while building self confidence and respect for self and others. Karate – Ages 4 & up Karate uses a variety of techniques, with the focus on blocks and strikes. This program will improve concentration, confidence, and self-esteem, while building skills, increasing fitness, and reducing stress. Registration is required.
Tae Kwon Do – Ages 4 & up Tae Kwon Do is Korean for "the way of the hand and feet." It is a system of self-defense combat containing punches, blocks, and a number of kick variations. Our Master Instructor, James Arrington, has been involved with the YMCA for 5 years, and has instructed for 30 years. Karate - Okinawan – Ages 8 - 13 (Olympia Downtown Branch) Engage in a traditional martial arts form with a self-defense emphasis. Improve concentration, confidence, and self esteem.
